ABANDONED HOT SPRINGS RESORT at BYRON, CA : 1969-70
Byron Hot Springs was a world renown turn of the 20th century plush hot spring resort in the California valley that attracted many wealthy people and celebrities world wide for the acclaimed health benefits of the hot, sulfurous waters. It opened originally in 1889, burned down and rebuilt in 1902 and again in 1913 and was closed and abandoned in the 1938. However during the 2nd World War it was used as an interrogation camp for German and Japanese soldiers and sailors, but after the war ended it was again abandoned. I visited several times in 1969 and 1970 to photograph there in its deteriorated state.
