Stan Bowman
I grew up in California, USA, received a BA in Architecture in 1964, and a MFA in photography from the University of New Mexico in 1973. Following graduation I was appointed as a professor at Cornell University in the Art Department where I taught photography and digital imaging for almost 30 years. In 1999 I retired from Cornell to pursue my career as an artist full time.
When it comes to my art I am an explorer. Photography was first for me in the 1950's as it opened ways of seeing and picture making that I had not experienced before. Then in the 1980’s as the result of a Cornell University grant I was able to get state of the art computer equipment and software and started exploring photography through this new technology. Then in 2004 I got my first iPhone and began using it as a camera which opened up a new way to capture images as my iPhone was always with me while my more sophisticated DSLR camera was not. Today iPhones have grown and continue to evolve in technical capabilities and so I use my iPhone as my primary camera.
